Just finished in early 2022 and full of upgrades including comfy heated floors, copper sinks, tasteful finishes and attractive artwork, our Chalet is a luxuriously rustic guest house located in Barrie, Ontario, just an hour’s drive north of Toronto, Canada and a two-minute walk from a beach, park and playground on the shore of beautiful Lake Simcoe.

We look forward to welcoming you to your private home away from home on our large property with heated salt water pool in a quiet, mature residential  neighbourhood.

Perfect for families, couples, and travelers looking for a unique rustic luxury experience in a friendly, comfortable environment.

The Chalet is a family, couple, and traveler-oriented space, and we love to welcome new guests to share and enjoy it – and maybe even become friends, as we have with so many of our guests.

We are a friendly, empty-nest professional couple who travel worldwide and love hosting and making new friends. We work and live in a separate home on the property and are usually around if you need anything.

We look forward to hosting you, and to you having an enjoyable stay in Barrie, the gateway to Ontario’s lake country, and close to four seasons of outdoor activities!

Enjoy your stay!

About the Chalet

What are the chalet features?

The Chalet is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

All the comforts of home are here waiting for you including a fully-equipped kitchen with coffee and tea, fridge and freezer with icemaker, safe induction stove, coffee maker, kettle, blender, dishwasher, cookware, and all utensils. Bath towels, hand towels and soaps are always here.

The kitchen features an island built for up to six people to enjoy a meal, work on your computer, or relax with people in the attached great room. A see-through fireplace adds a comfortable ambience for both the great room with comfortable couches, and the porch overlooking the back yard and neighbourhood.

The exterior porch is partly covered by the roof, allowing you to stay out of the rain, sun, or wind when you prefer, and features a table and seating for everyone.

Floors are kept warm and cozy with in-floor heating from late fall until early spring. An additional heat pump system, with wall mounted heating/cooling cassettes in each of the bedrooms and great room, provide additional heat when you want it in winter, and rapid cooling on hot summer days and evenings.

Bottom-up window shades provide privacy while letting lots of light in and maintaining a view of the forested neighbourhood, and the bedrooms feature black-out curtains for sleeping. Ceiling fans are located in the great room and both bedrooms.

A large new gas barbecue with utensils is on the porch sheltered under the roof for you to use any time of year.

What are the accommodations like?

There is one super comfortable queen-sized bed with plenty of pillows and nice linens in each bedroom. If you need to accommodate an additional person (for a total of up to five), we can provide a single mattress and bedding to place in one of the bedrooms at an additional cost of $50 per night.  Ceiling fans provide gentle air circulation.

The Jack & Jill bathroom is directly accessible from both bedrooms, and features a 16″ rain-can shower head directly overhead and shower bar on the wall with removable head. A small separate powder room is accessible directly from the great room.

All floors are heated from November to April to keep your feet and body comfortable on cooler days, with additional quick heat and AC to set the temperature as you prefer.  There is a see-through fireplace set into a stone accent wall in the great room for both heat and ambiance from fall until spring.  Warm, cozy, dimmable lighting is tastefully arranged throughout the Chalet.

What is nearby?

Off the property, activities start at the nearby beach and park where you can swim, play, and relax in summer, or walk or cross-country ski on the lake when it’s frozen in winter.

Downtown Barrie is 5 km / 3 miles away. We have three bicycles which guests are welcome to use – two road bikes and a BMX – and a biking / walking path leading to Barrie around the shore of Lake Simcoe is nearby.

Barrie is the gateway to summer cottage country and winter activities.  A great variety of restaurants, grocery and liquor stores, boating, walking trails, festivals, resorts, treetop trekking and many local features and activities are just a few minutes drive away.

The world’s longest fresh water beach – Wasaga Beach – is 40 minutes away. A marina and all-season concrete fishing dock are each a five-minute walk away.

In winter, downhill and cross-country skiing is close by. Snow Valley is just 20 minutes away, Mount St. Louis - Moonstone and Horseshoe Resort 30 minutes, and Blue Mountain Resort one hour.  Hardwood Hills for cross country skiing is 30 minutes away, or you can just ski to and on the lake when it’s frozen 200 metres away!

Toronto with its airport and big-city features is about an hour’s drive away.

What do we have access to?

The Chalet is the entire second floor of this custom new building, including the porch overlooking the pool, and is exclusively yours. It’s about 1,100 square feet, (100 square meters) and includes use of the pool in summer, parking for two cars, and the use of the laundry room downstairs.

Also on the ground floor, separate from your space, is a garage and office that we do use from time to time, as our principal house is about 80 feet / 25 meters away and on the same property. Don’t be surprised if you see us around once in a while, but we always respect your privacy. We work from home and are usually here if you need anything – just ask!

Are other guests or loud music allowed?

We want all of our guests to enjoy their time at the Chalet, but no loud parties are allowed out of respect for our neighbours, and quiet time is 10:00 pm. Only registered guests on the property please.  One additional guest (for a total of 5) is permissible for an additional charge of $50 per night.

How do we gain access?

Entry is via touchpad.  We will send you the code the day prior to your arrival.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children of all ages are welcome, but pool safety is the responsibility of our guests.

Is there parking available?

Yes, there are two parking spots available to you.

Is there smoking on the property?

Yes, smoking is allowed on the property, but please not in or near the Chalet out of respect for future guests.  There is an outdoor smoking area nearby.
